Therabreath Icy Mint (sodium chlorite, oils, SLS-free)

Therabreath Icy Mint (sodium chlorite, oils, SLS-free)

**Comparable to Oxyfresh Lemon mint or Oxyfresh Pro, both of which contain sodium chlorite and oils like this rinse, but those two Oxyfreshes also include zinc acetate, another VSC disrupting compound, BUT the Therabreath Icy Mint will have a much stronger mint flavor you may prefer (Oxyfresh Pro contains only peppermint oil and Lemon Mint is citruses, bergamot, and spearmint). If you want both sodium chlorite AND zinc, check Therabreath PLUS (oils are tea tree and menthol, so still may not be as strong as Icy Mint).

Therabreath mild mint and the icy mint have the ADA seal for bad breath reduction (for the ingredient sodium chlorite, the same active ingredient in CloSys). The Therabreath mild mint contains only peppermint oil (making it less minty but perhaps not as effective as an antimicrobial as the icy mint with menthol and lemon oil, too).

Sodium chlorite (chlorine dioxide) disrupts volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) which are the smelly molecules produced by many oral bacteria that result in bad breath odors.

The essential oils (peppermint, menthol, lemon) in the Icy Mint version are antimicrobial, although perhaps not as effective as cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) found in BreathRx. If sensitive to CPC and you experience staining, and/or your bad breath isn’t controlled via the zinc compound in BreathRx, this may be a good alternative. Note that BreathRx also contained several essential oils: mint, thymol, and eucalyptus.
